Meet the Martins! :: VA MD DC Photographer

Back in October of last year, my grandfather was very ill. My mom and I needed to get to Daytona Beach Florida to see him before he passed. Unfortunately we had barely any money and couldn’t afford somewhere to stay. I reached out to my church family, and what was poured back out to us was just amazing. Joy, contacted her grandmother and her grandmother offered a room for us to stay in as long as we needed it. I am SO thankful to have an amazing group of friends like Joy & her family.

As a way to say thank you for the amazing blessing they were to our family, I offered them a family session.

Thank you SO much Joy, and family. We love you.

Meet Brheanna & Lauren! The two of them are high school seniors graduating THIS YEAR!! YEAH! They are best friends and were SO much fun! All I had to do was say make *her* laugh and the two of them were giggling and smiling up a storm, it was too cute. But don’t let them fool you – they’ve got some AMAZING serious faces too!! Have you ever heard of the saying “One man’s trash, is another man’s treasure”?? While some people may think weeds are pesky and irritating, I LOVE weeds. Well the flowering kind that is. My girls love to pick mommy some weeds, er I mean flowers. And I LOVE the flower bouquets they bring to me! I have vases of these flowers all the time, and the more they bring – the more beautiful it gets!

The day they are too old to pick mommy flowers, will be a sad sad day – but for now I will enjoy every moment of it.

Back in January I had a contest to celebrate reaching 500 fans on my facebook page. A friend of mine from church, Tracey Cook was the winner! For her photo session she asked for me to take pictures of her sweet grand daughter Sophia! She is absolutely adorable, and just shines brightly with energy!

Then I had the pleasure of meeting her hubby Joel – who is super sweet and funny! The two of them are newly weds, around 7 months I believe. They want to document their marriage – and I think that is such an awesome thing to do!

Trendy Tuesday :: SHOES! :: VA MD DC Photographer

I made a new friend today, which I am super duper excited about! But we went on a little shopping trip today and we found ourselves in the shoe section – by no surprise on my part because I am apparently magnetized to that area. She too is a photographer, and we got to talking about how fun it is when our clients wear cool shoes! Shoes seriously can MAKE the outfit! I spent a little time, okay too much time, on Nordstrom today looking through all the shoes – and DROOOL – I could fill a whole bed room with shoes. So to make it easy on myself for which shoes to pick for Trendy Tuesday I picked one for each color of the rainbow and then of course a black and neutral!

What is it? It’s SPRING!!! And it’s on it’s way!!! I am beyond excited about this. I went on a walk today to get Kylie from the bus and it was just heavenly! The flowers are blooming, the air is beginning to warm, and the sun is shining ever so brightly. I am so excited to get outside and take some pictures!!

Peek A Boo!! :: VA MD DC Portrait Photographer

I can’t tell you how often I think about the world around me, and the choices I make. Why I do what I do, when I do it, & who I do it for. My brain is typically a whirlwind of thoughts that swirls so fast I’m nearly dizzy!! A lot of what I have been thinking about is what is meaningful to me. Will this choice make a bit of difference when Im 80 years old. Will what I have done with my life today be memorable to me, will I be proud of it?!

Yesterday little buddy man got into a stack of props I had taken pictures of to sell, amazingly enough he found a hat that was just his size. He was walking around with it on for some time when the light hit him just right and I thought – I should take a picture of him. I sat him up on the couch and began playing with him, getting him to giggle and caught a few really cute shots of him. But it wasn’t quite what I was going for, by this time he was more interested in what was on t.v. than his mom with that black thing in front of her face, AGAIN. So I started playing peek a boo with the camera, in which started the cutest thing ever. He started playing peek a boo with me with his hat – I loved it. In the midst of capturing these sweet moments my heart felt fulfilled. I had stopped what I was doing to enjoy something SO simple as playing peek a boo. The smile on my little man’s face just melts my heart. I love it. I love his smile, I love his giggle, and I love him.

Little Miss A :: Virginia Newborn Photographer

When I made the decision to try a different approach to my photography, I had no idea what would be in store for me. I had been thinking alot about photography, and what it could and should mean to my clients. Of course a cute baby wrapped up in one of my knitted props is super cute. But imagine how much more meaningful a baby wrapped up in a blanket knitted by grandma could be. Or wearing mommy’s booties from when she was a baby. I am on a mission to put more meaning into my images. To capture the life of this tiny person, their tiny features, and everything that is meaningful to their family.
